First peal in the method, previously rung in spliced.
Rung to mark the opening of the Elizabeth line earlier today. The method rung appears on a plaque at Whitechapel station explaining the local connection with bells and that the blue line for Whitechapel Road Surprise Major has been abstracted and translated into dots on the concrete panels which surround the Durward Street shaft.
Following the peal the band, along with Aldgate ringers Tim Mills and Paula Pritchard-Duggan, travelled on the new Elizabeth line, toured the new Whitechapel Station before refreshments which were enjoyed at The Blind Beggar public house.
Christ Church Spitalfields is about 50m south of the westbound Elizabeth line tunnel (which is approximately 30m below street level between Liverpool Street and Whitechapel stations). Our thanks go to Olaf Haitink, construction engineer, TfL engineering, for his enthusiasm and support.
